Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center (hereinafter referred to as SAWTC) is the first full-scale automotive wind tunnel center in China. Since its operation in 2009, the SAWTC has served the domestic automobile OEMs for 13 years, completed over 14 national and provincial natural science funding projects, and published 280 SCI/EI papers. Up to 90 domestic customers completed experiments in SAWTC. The SAWTC has got the First Prize of Shanghai Scientific and Technological Progress Award. It has been approved as Shanghai Professional Technical Service Platform, National Platform of Science Instrument Centers(NPSIC)-National Center for Automotive Wind Tunnel in Shanghai, and Shanghai Key Laboratory of Vehicle Aerodynamics and Vehicle Thermal Management System.

The SAWTC has a total construction area of 21095 square meters, with an aero-acoustic wind tunnel, a climatic wind tunnel, an HPC center and a scaled wind tunnel. Among them: the maximum wind speed of the aero-acoustic wind tunnel is 250km/h, and the background noise of 160km/h is less than 61dB(A), which is still at the international advanced level; the maximum wind speed of the climatic wind tunnel is up to 220km/h, with the temperature range of -20 ~55°C, relative humidity range of 5~95%, and can simulate sunlight radiation and rainfall. It is capable of providing simulation, optimization, experimental validation and evaluation for aerodynamic, aero-acoustic, thermodynamic and environmental adaptability performance research and development of the full-scale vehicle and components.
